Using coloring pages not just for elementary school! Rich with vocabulary, creativity & engagement, here are 6 ways to use coloring pages for middle and high school Spanish.
- Introduce Vocabulary. It can also be a fun way to show them vocabulary while staying in Spanish! The visuals help demonstrate meaning for Spanish 1 students especially. Teaching school objects? Add a coloring page into your lesson plan.
- Easy Classroom Decor. No matter how much we try, it always seems we never switch out that bulletin board, huh?! Use themed coloring pages to spruce up your room. Whether it’s holidays like Valentine’s Day and Halloween, the 4 seasons, or back to school time, you can include the fun of the season in your class!
- Fast Finishers. Keep a handful of extra copies around for any fast finishers. It keeps students off of technology and engages them creatively.

4. Sub Plans. Coloring pages are perfect for the secondary Spanish classroom sub plans! Use vocabulary rich coloring pages as a required activity, or simply use as an “if there’s time” backup plan. It’s always nice to have a stack of coloring pages around for a sub for if students finish quickly!
5. After Tests and Quizzes. After students submit a test, have them grab a coloring sheet and destress. Finished a final exam? Great, look forward to the break with these summer themed coloring pages!
6. When Changing Seating Charts. This might be niche to me… but it seems the day I change seats, there’s always kids coming in late! Pass out a coloring page for students to work on for the first 5-10 minutes of class to catch any stragglers.
